Solid is going to offer their database engine (3m deployments) as MySQL table handler starting in June. Maybe that's the reason MySQL seemed so unconcerned (relatively speaking) by Oracle's acquisition of Innobase last year.

Some interesting tidbits: In the mid-nineties, both Mårten Mickos (MySQL CEO, ref) and Heikki Tuuri (lead developer of InnoDB) were employees at Solid; as the ZDNet Open Source Blog reports, the US arms of both MySQL and Solid reside in the same building in Cupertino.
