Finally, Microsoft gives up on its ambition to become a perfect clone of an around-1990 IBM with regards to branding: WPF/E (E?!*) is now known as Microsoft Silverlight.

From a first look at some samples, Silverlight will have one heck of a hard time competing against Flash; in the (not so terribly?) long run they're all dead as Open Web platforms will sport the video element, an OpenGL ES-enhanced canvas and pretty darn good JITters (e.g. Tamarin).

* Adobe recently released Flash 9 (beta) for Solaris.
