This video gives a good overview of the SVCL's rather fascinating semantic image retrieval research results that have been making the rounds earlier this year.

Noteworthy: Simple models (i.e. mixture models of local features) work best (so far). QBSE (Query by Semantic Example) performs well when staying within the semantic space modelled, outside that space performance drops to QBVE (Query by Visual Example) levels.

I wonder how coupling a system like that with evocation data would work out ...
