Even though a great deal of Helmatic energy is going into the development of Helma NG, Helma 1 is by no means dead; quite to the contrary, if the upcoming release of Helma 1.6.3 (change log, release candidate) is any indication: with lots of (mostly minor) issues fixed, it looks like a true quality release.

Speaking of server-side JavaScript, Bret Taylor (of FriendFeed) recently put up a first incarnation of Hangover, a super-simple web server embedding V8. While it's currently more of a demo (written for a 24h application challenge), something like this could become interesting very quickly ...
