An alternative to .
  • Anna registers at the INFX site.
  • There she specifies her feed reader's subscription URL* pattern.
  • Sites display the INFX logo, clicking on which opens a pop-up ad window (http://infx.neutral.territory/sub?url=http://...&title=...) where Anna can confirm that she actually wants to subscribe to the selected feed.
  • The INFX site identifies users using cookies.
  • No data about feed subscriptions will be stored by the INFX site operator.
Every feed reader accessible by an URL and capable of adding feeds via HTTP GET or POST will be able to participate (in contrast to UserLand's evil scheme, where only feed readers listening on localhost, port 5335 and mimicking Radio's URL design can participate). INFX would add another (IMO sorely needed) layer of indirection, giving Anna the freedom to use whatever reader she deems fit.

*For Radio UserLand, the URL pattern would be http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/subscriptions?url=[feed-url]. For my (hypothetical) parss server running on overloader.at, it could look like http://chl-apps.overloader.at/parss/?url=[feed-url].
