"[...] SEQTRAN [...] is effectively a macro processor that turns scheduled logical events (such as firing a thruster) into physical events (such as opening and closing valves) via macro expansion. This software was originally written in assembly, translated to FORTRAN by mechanical substitution, and later translated to C via similar techniques. Its functions do not take parameters; local variables are almost nonexistent; global variables are named after the registers on the ancient IBM minicomputer the assembly code was originally written for. Its input and output formats are fixed-width text records, and the documentation still talks in terms of "cards" and "tapes"."
