Quark has been founded by Tim Gill in [create 1981] with $2000 lent to him by his parents. In just three months he wrote the [create Apple III] word processor [create Word Juggler] and within 6 weeks after publishing the program he was able to pay back his loan.

In 1987, QuarkXPress was launched. After a long period of travelling, listening to potential customers and building the product to exactly match their wishes, Quark was able to grab the dominant position in the nascent DTP market from Aldus.
