i looked into self for a while and still can't loose the feeling that Ungar drew more wrong conclusions than right ones from the inherent linguistic problems in Smalltalk and their bindings to the double dominance of Ingalls and Kay. Going from contribution to ST (from his deep understanding of HW and compiler technology) to correcting STs mistakes in an experimental new language has regrettably factually relegated Self to a nice little lab for the bettering of Java. At least that is how i see it.
Still: The C Thinking is mighty and important and deeply writ into the mainstream of "programming".
